REAL PROGRESS
Technological innovation and new guidelines for the treatment of Atrial Fibrillation: interview with Prof. M. Santini, Chairman of Progress in Clinical Pacing 2006.

Q: Professor Santini, this is the XII Edition of the International Symposium on “Progress in Clinical Pacing.” Held every two years in Rome, it has become a fixed appointment for worldwide experts of cardiac stimulation and electrophysiology. What has changed since the first edition?

A: The first edition was held way back in 1984. Since then, ongoing technological progress, on the one hand, and rapidly evolving scientific and clinical knowledge, on the other, have contributed to the development of the cardiovascular sector and have made it possible to achieve important goals, especially in electrophysiology. For this reason, the intense scientific program will deal with the latest innovations and advancements in cardiac arrhythmias. Special focus will be on Atrial Fibrillation (AF) which currently represents the most widespread form of sustained cardiac arrhythmias affecting over 6 million people in the world.

Q: Still regarding AF, what advancements have been made in recent years in treatment?
