In the last ten years transcatheter ablation of cardiac arrhythmias has been established as first choice therapy for many arrhythmias or as alternative to the more traditional drug treatment for complex arrhythmias. Improvement of technologies and clinical success reported in the literature have increased clinical indication. Among the wide range of cardiac arrhythmias, Atrial Fibrillation (AF) is the one with major impact on the worldwide population in terms of mortality, morbidity, quality of life, and associated costs (hospitalization and treatment). Incidence of AF increases with age and due to longer life expectancy we estimate that AF prevalence will reach two fold increase in 2050. AF has given a vigorous impulse and still drives the industry research and development to realize sophisticated technologies for navigation and 3-D non fluoroscopic electrical mapping to improve efficacy of catheter ablation. They provide accurate location of cardiac structures and accurate localization of ablation catheter during mapping and radiofrequency delivery, getting faster, safer and more effective radiofrequency lesions, with significant advantages both for the patient and the operators. Catheter ablation of complex arrhythmias like atrial...continua a leggere
